陳廷彰Chen Ting Chang


陳廷彰(1990~)現就讀台灣藝術大學書畫系博士班,獲國內外眾多獎項,他專注於神話思想並從自己的生活觀察而創作,他的作品被多家公共機構收藏。

廷彰認為創作中重要的不應只是可見的形象、色彩、符號、肌理…,創作的中心應是一種靈智活動的過程,能擺脫舊有的詮釋,還給心一個自然的整體狀態。如此,能創造性地獲致一種能涵容更多可能的眼光,期待能將不同的對立面整合,而獲致一種趨向整體性的觀點。創作活動是整合的過程,作品則是痕跡。

陳廷彰以會洗去記憶的「忘川」為基礎,發展為「忘川謠」系列。廷彰常畫完一面再翻到另一面繼續畫,重複進行此繪畫動作…從每次的"交錯"呼應觀點的互換,每次翻身,都猶如忘川裡換過一具又一具色身的魂魄。宣紙正成為那條忘川的象徵,匯集靈魂與記憶也孕育出自我意識的那條幽冥之河。
「忘川謠」系列除了繪畫也包含樂曲與聲響形式的創作。有些以聲響與樂曲作為繪畫的草稿,有些是聲音與視覺交互發展完成,以排比時間形式的聲音表達與空間形式的視覺表達的關係,去探索自我的多層面向。

時空與生命本身或許就是永遠的疑問,而藝術家願意不斷把生命整個過程本身作為回答。生命可能是時空中的循環,藝術家從希望藝術讓循環發生變動,到希望藝術能作為循環的結束,希冀藝術能成就願意,讓循環間彼此滲透而生生不息!


Ting-Chang Chen (1990 - ), now pursuing a doctoral degree in National Taiwan University of Arts (NTUA), has received many awards both at home and abroad. He focuses on mythological ideas and creates his artworks extracted from own life observations, which have also been collected by several public institutions.
For Ting-Chang, artistic creation should concern not only the characteristics of a visible surface such as visual impressions, colours, icons, texture, etc., but it should also embody an intellectual process in which artists are liberated from traditional interpretations and attain a holistic state of mind. To create, therefore, is a process of integration, whose traces are inscribed in their artworks.
In his iconic series Ballad of Lethe (忘川謠), Ting-Chang drew from the folklore “The River of Forgetting” (忘川) to shape the body of his work. He would repeatedly flip over the Xuan paper during the painting process, the act itself symbolising ghosts being endlessly reincarnated. Echoing the folklore, the paper becomes the embodiment of The River of Forgetting, through which souls and memories converge and self-conscious existence is born.   
In addition to the ink-washed paintings, Ting-Chang also expresses his artistic ideas through forms related to sounds in his series. Some of his works are structured around music and sound, while others are developed through the interweaving of auditory and visual experiences—exploring how aural expressions parallel time, while visual forms are composed in spatial relationships—revealing various facets of the self. 
Time and life per se may cast a perpetual doubt upon us, but artists dedicate their lifetime to seeking its answer. Life could be a cyclical existence across the space-time continuum. But for artists, their artworks will become the wheel that first sets a life in motion— eventually completing the cycle, then beginning anew, and on end.
