山-塵三個展
Mountain - Chen San Solo Exhibition
山之體魄、水之情韻，山之空闊、水之輕靈，如此東方的審美意境，得以在台灣當代藝術家塵三的油彩畫布上深刻地感受到，那份磅礡的詩意，從油彩中滲透出來，或厚疊或輕塗，教人一遇，便久久難忘。

藝術家的筆刷裡一定藏著風！要不何以筆刷所到之處，讓人感覺色彩隨著光陰不斷地流動。靜看煙嵐匯聚、閒聽泉水飛濺，領悟到天地萬物皆任運自在而又生機蓬勃地運行著，讓久居塵囂的內心，得到了清新快意的滌盪與抒發。
看過趙無極筆觸裡的抽象東方、朱德群色彩裡的抒情東方，再看塵三先生在山、水、泉、荷裡呈現的意象東方，讓人驚嘆藝術是這麼一個充滿想像、充滿美的世界。讓人可以無盡地悠遊、無盡地聆賞。特別是，當我們看到劉國松先生創新了山水的表現技法，龎均先生以淡彩油畫呈現詩意般的江南，於是我們更能理解塵三先生在寫意油畫山水裡所做的承先啟後的探索與實踐：以重彩表現東方水墨的風格，以創新的技法再造筆墨的生機，以抒情奔放的意象陶冶現代人的心靈世界。
承接去年的個展「東方熱」，今年個展，藝術家以一個大大的「山」字概括創作主題。「山」-象形的入門之字，蘊含著藝術家賦予它的取之不盡的想像與表現力，更啟發我們以簡單的心境、直觀的感受來欣賞他的作品。直觀看畫，與心對應，感覺會變得如絲般敏銳，於是我們感受到藝術家快速而靈動的筆觸，誘發出屬於我們自己的鮮活想像，彷彿看到魚兒正逆流而上飛躍龍門，彷彿聽到駿馬閃電般奔馳而過的呼呼山風。同樣，將心沉澱，我們便能悠悠地感受到那或深沉或跳宕的色彩氛圍，俯瞰廣漠天地間一叢綠樹，遠望濛濛煙雨中一葉輕舟，靛藍的山體上刮出透光的翠藍，鉻紅與暈黃的筆觸生猛交接，一同奔向銅綠色的湖……意象如此靈動，想像的快馬都快停不下來了。
山水如人之有神，是因為畫家以神入山水。「臥遊山水」，「澄懷味象」，悠遊於塵三畫裡的抒情天地，相信您感受到的會比我更多！
The strength of mountains, the tenderness of water; the openness of mountains, the lightness of water. This Eastern sense of beauty comes vividly to life on the canvases of Taiwanese contemporary artist Chen San. A sweeping, poetic feeling seeps through his oil paint, whether layered thick or brushed light, and once encountered, it stays with you for a long time.
There must be wind hidden inside the artist's brush! Or how else could color seem to keep flowing wherever the brush has passed, as if carried by time itself? Watching mist gather quietly and listening to water splash and spray, one comes to sense that all things in the world move freely and vividly, following their own natural course. For a heart worn down by the noise of daily life, this offers a fresh and welcome release.
Having seen the abstract East in the brushwork of Zao Wou-Ki (趙無極) and the lyrical East in the colors of Chu Teh-Chun (朱德群), we now see, in Chen San's mountains, waters, springs, and lotus flowers, yet another vision of the East, one built purely from imagery and imagination. It reminds us just how full of imagination and beauty art can be, offering endless space to wander and to listen. When we consider how Liu Kuo-sung (劉國松) pioneered new techniques for landscape painting, and how Pang Jiun (龎均) captured the poetic charm of the Jiangnan region (江南) through light-toned oil painting, we can better appreciate what Chen San is doing in his own freehand oil landscapes. He carries forward tradition while opening new paths: using bold color to express the spirit of Chinese ink painting, using innovative technique to breathe new life into brush and ink, and using lyrical, unrestrained imagery to nourish the inner world of people today.
Following last year's solo exhibition, "Eastern Fever," this year's exhibition is built around a single, powerful word: "Mountain." As one of the earliest pictographic characters, "mountain" carries within its endless room for imagination and expression, the very quality the artist draws upon in his work. It also invites us to approach his paintings simply, through direct feeling rather than analysis. Looking at the paintings this way, letting them resonate with the heart, our senses grow as fine and sensitive as silk. We feel the artist's quick, lively brushwork sparking our own vivid imagination, perhaps seeing a fish leaping upstream like trout, or hearing the rush of wind as a horse gallops past like lightning. In the same way, if we let our minds settle, we can sense the shifting moods of color, deep in some places and sudden and sharp in others: a cluster of green trees seen from above across a vast expanse of land, a small boat drifting through a hazy, rain-soaked distance, streaks of translucent turquoise scraped across indigo mountain forms, chrome red and hazy yellow brushstrokes colliding with raw energy, all rushing together toward a lake of verdigris green. The imagery is so alive that the imagination can hardly keep up.
Mountains and waters seem to carry a spirit of their own, because the artist has poured his own spirit into them. To travel through mountains and waters while lying still, to settle the heart and savor the image. Wandering through the lyrical world of Chen San's paintings, we believe you will feel even more than these words can say.
